Volvo launches new C40, XC40 EV crossovers

Volvo has introduced the 2024 C40 Recharge and XC40 Pure Electric Twin Motor crossovers that are more powerful and offer extended operating ranges thanks to larger batteries.

The 150kW front and rear electric motors are now replaced with a newly-developed 258hp permanent magnet e-motor at the rear plus a 150kW asynchronous front motor that does not need to be powered all the time, resulting in lower energy consumption.

The battery size has been increased to 82kWh and the range of the XC40 has been increased by 62km to 500km (WLTP), while the range of the C40 has gone up by 56km to 507km (WLTP).

Charging times are also faster, with 200kW DC capability (up from 150kW), taking just 28 minutes from 10-80%.

There are some exterior changes, such as the new 19in 5-spoke black diamond cut aerodynamic wheels which helps reduce drag, as well as two new colours.
